How to Clean Dentures in Nursing Care
Denture care in nursing and CNA care involves safely removing, cleaning, storing, and reinserting dentures while also providing oral care to the mouth. Dentures should be cleaned after meals, before bedtime, or whenever visibly soiled using warm water, a soft toothbrush or denture brush, and denture cleaning paste when available. Nursing staff should use gloves, label the denture cup, pad the sink with towels and water to prevent breakage, clean all denture surfaces thoroughly, rinse well, and store dentures moist in water or the patient’s preferred soaking solution. Proper denture care helps prevent food buildup, odor, bacteria, discomfort, damage, and loss or mix-ups in shared care settings.
